Here's an interesting report from December 2010 which describes potential evolutions in M-Health development, as perceived by start‐up companies and mHealth and traditional healthcare market players that have had experience publishing applications for a smartphone platform.
The survey reveals that the impact the new smartphone app market has on mHealth is significant. Some of the results of the survey are:
• Diabetes is seen as the therapeutic area with the highest business potential
• App developers and agencies will be the main players in the market
• Smartphone penetration will be main driver for mHealth
• Lack of standardization, regulation and market transparency are the main barriers facing mHealth
• Doctors and hospitals will be the main distribution channel for mHealth apps
• Android and iOS will be preferred mobile platforms for mHealth solutions
This is very much based on readily existing 3G-markets, but may be an indicator for the things to come in developing countries as soon as 3G penetrates more widely there too...
