How many times have you missed out on an opportunity that you knew about, not to mention the times you weren’t informed of them? How many times have you stumbled upon a business opportunty, only to realise you have a day to prepare your bid?
With these questions in mind, Trio Consult in Zambia recently launched its web-based service, Mpoto, ideally meant as a resource for business and funding opportunities for suppliers of goods and services, as well as not-for-profit organisations. Tenders advertised on the website are mainly from public sector, parastatals, private companies and NGOs. The funding opportunities (calls for proposals and offers for grants) are sourced from the world's biggest philanthropists, foundations, trusts and donor agencies. Subscribers can rest assured knowing that they won’t miss any relevant bid opportunities and will have online access on a non-stop basis; this allows them to navigate the Online Tenders database, which will contain thousands of bid opportunities from various business sectors.
The Internet plays a crucial role in the way we do business and we have engineered the website to ensure that our key audience (contractors, distributors, suppliers and other interested parties) can receive timely tender notifications (via email and SMS), access detailed information faster and with greater ease.
We think this is a concept that could be of interest to other countries as well, so please do visit http://mpoto.info, we will appreciate your feedback!

I am so grateful for sharing this concept. However I have a a few questions
1) How do you source out for all this information, especially the local content?
2) How does the business earn its dime? Is it form the subscribers? And how much in dollars to they pay?
3) How do you make the platform known to by the intersted clients/those who need the services?
regards
Danny

Thanks for your comments. The site makes "dimes" out of subscriptions. For now the site is open, but soon access to complete tender details will be restricted, unless one is fully subscribed. The rates are approx $10/month or a discounted annual rate of $100.
We have engaged a one-on-one approach, by talking to individual organisations that publish tenders to send advertise their tenders on the site at a fraction of what they would pay to newspapers.
We are planning on placing somde adverts in newspaper, and doing some radio shows, to publicise the platform
