The Technical Center for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA) in partnership with the Institute for Scientific and Technological Information (CSIR – INSTI) of Ghana, organised the Youth Exchange and Training Workshop on Web 2.0 for Agricultural and Rural Development. This workshop which is organized in the framework of the ARDYIS (Agriculture, Rural Development and Youth in the Information Society) project, aims to train selected best participants of the ARDYIS essay contest organized in 2010 in advanced web 2.0 tools and to support networking among youth involved in the project. Participants come from 17 ACP countries.

The event which was held in Accra, from 7 to 11 March 2011 has two components - a training workshop (4 days) on selected Web2.0 tools and an exchange meeting (1 day) on the challenges and opportunities of agriculture for youth in the information society. The training agenda covers an introduction on web 2.0 for development, RSS tools, collaborating remotely using wikis and Google Docs, producing content on Wikipedia, online mapping and advanced social networking tools. For the exchange meeting, discussions will be articulated via interactive sessions, with presentations of experiences of youth involved in the project and presentations by resourceful experts.

The purpose of ARDYIS is to raise youth awareness and capacity on agricultural and rural development issues in ACP countries through ICTs. More specifically, it will strengthen the capacities of the youth on ICTs for development issues, particularly in the agricultural and rural sector and contribute to sensitizing youth on the questions related to agriculture and rural development in ACP countries. It is a framework for actions that will contribute to the promotion of opportunities for youth in ACP countries in the sectors of agriculture, rural development and information and communication technology.
