Hello Hello you all,
Being very interested in the short coming future of ICT4D, I would like to launch a discussion about studying ICT4D.
As we might all agree ICT4D is a emerging sector which is somehow lagging behind the demand (social reality). In my opinion, if there were more projects and initiatives worldwide which included ICT some development programmes would be more successful. Fortunately, the paradigm of development is sightly changing and soon everyone and every entity will realize (invest and capitalize) how relevant ICT is for whatever societal area.
In order to support such growth there is the need to have people properly skilled, I mean with both ICT and Development know-how, I think and other also say. As far as I have noticed after a research on the Internet there are quite few masters programmers dedicated to ICT4D. I must confess I mostly dedicated my research to European and South African Universities. ICT4D in Manchester and Stockholm are some examples, as well as, Health Informatics and e-Government in other Swedish universities as related subjects.
By the way, ICT4D in Stockholm didn't start in 2011 because there were no enough good students interested in the programme. Interesting the fact there is a growing demand for ICT4D experts but there aren't students interested in studying it, it seems.
Why aren't people interested in study ICT4D? Whose job is to raise awareness among youth of such? Are we, interested ones, letting others know about how ICT is contributing for a better (fair, prosperous, sustainable...) world?
Will ICT4D sector sustainably grow being able to correspond to the demand? What might be the consequences of not having the right people doing the right thing when running ICT4D-related development programmes? Are the ones who haven't studied ICT4D now working in the sector willing to further their studies?
Looking forward to hearing from you and enlighten myself about this issue ;)
Yours,

I think there are many people around there forties that would like to use there skills for doing something good in the world. Courses for this kind of students could start on a higher level and in the end fill the gaps in the ICT4D sector with highly qualified people.
