Mobile and Web Technologies in Social and Economic Development
June 4-5 2011, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
The Workshop on Mobile and Web Technologies in Social and Economic Development aims to understand the challenges associated with using mobile phones and Web technologies to deliver sustainable services for underprivileged populations in developing countries.
Today, more than half the world's population lives on less than $3 a day, and has no access to healthcare, education, government services, etc. But the strong growth in the mobile phone use offers new opportunities for improvement. The potential of simple ICT services on mobile devices to increase people's income has been demonstrated. However, there are still many challenges to overcome in order to realize the full potential of mobile and Web technologies in this area. The aim of this workshop is to explore how to lower the existing barriers and to identify key directions for future exploration.
People and organizations with interest in the role of mobile phones and the Web in social and economic development are invited to submit statements of interest, abstracts or position papers by email to team-m4d-ws-submit@webfoundation.org. See more about participation below.
Note: Depending on sponsorship for the event, some grants may be offered to participants who need them. As part of your submission, you may express interest in receiving such a grant.
